2015 IYF Grant was awarded for Traveller Education & Health: Towards the provision of a weekly session on the Northwood Park Traveller site in South Gloucestershire, focussing on Education and Health outcomes and encouraging uptake of the new government funded nursery places for 2 year olds. The project would take place on board the Playbus, delivered in partnership with the specialist GRT health visitor for South Glos.
A range of health information and advice will be offered as well as basic training and support on baby feeding, nutrition, domestic violence and 1st Aid.
A range of activities will also be offered for the under 12’s to assist their learning in literacy and numeracy. Funds have been secured for the first term and the requested funds are to make up the balance required to continue the work for the rest of the year, the timescale necessary to build trusting relationships with the children and gain meaningful outcomes. Bristol Playbus have tried shorter projects in the past with less success.
Bristol Playbus is a mobile community development play and youth resource first established in 1974 aiming to work with people isolated from community provision throughout Bristol and surrounding areas.
Running a fully converted double-decker bus, the project offers a range of play and family learning experiences for children who have been identified as disadvantaged in some way.
All of the projects are mobile and delivered in partnership with other agencies.
