30th Anniversary BBQ – IYF (UK)

The Chairman and Board of Trustees are delighted to invite you to celebrate the 30th  Anniversary of the Irish Youth Foundation (UK) on Thursday 23 May 2019

6.00pm – midnight: drinks reception, BBQ & cash bar

Most of us know WIN as a warm and welcoming sisterhood of inspiring, supportive, entertaining and fun women (your words, not ours!) and since WIN was founded in 1998 the network has convened hundreds of women at a broad spectrum of events, both business and social, with the aim of providing a valuable and inspiring network for Irish women and their friends. But WIN isn’t just about networking. It’s also about raising money for charitable projects across Britain and Northern Ireland that support disadvantaged young Irish people, via the Irish Youth Foundation (UK).

The IYF celebrates its 30th birthday this year, and since it was founded in 1989 has awarded over £5 million to projects that improve the lives and opportunities of young Irish people in the UK. You can see some examples of the projects that they’ve supported, below. What you may not know is that over half a million of that money awarded has come direct from you – the WIN members. Your membership fee not only gives you access to one of the most dynamic and engaged networks around, but more importantly, 100% of your membership fee goes to support projects awarded grants by the Irish Youth Foundation. That’s got to be worth celebrating, right?

So please join us on 23rd May at the Rotunda Bar to celebrate 30 wonderful years of the Irish Youth Foundation, meet some of the people involved with the projects they support, and raise a glass to the great work you’ve been helping to achieve just by paying your membership! Details for purchasing your tickets are below. We’d love to see all of you there.

  • 🎭Why Shouldn’t I Go? Written and performed by Janet Behan, Directed by Jessica Higgs. 🎟November 14 – 16, London Irish Centre, Tickets £11.37

In the play three very different women, each of whom grew up in Ireland in the sixties, tell their stories — at some points very funny, at others, heartbreaking.
Funny and shocking by turns, “Why Shouldn’t I Go?” tells the stories of three very different Irishwomen with one thing in common – religion and the impact it has had on their lives.
In Realtine our heroine has joined a creative writing class but a long-buried secret has so far prevented her from writing a word. Today her story comes pouring out —'So one day a nun comes to the school. A beautiful creature from the Poor Clare. Not many women can look beautiful in a nun's habit.' Reclusive Noreen rails against her daughter, husband and neighbours for ruining her life; in reality her life was ruined years before, when she was little more than a child —'Come near me again with that thing and I’ll chop it off for you! You won’t be so big when I’ve Cinished with you, I’m telling you boy! I’ll chop it off for you, CHOP, CHOP, CHOP!' Susan, wife of the town’s highly respected pastor, realises she’s pregnant. The townsfolk offer hearty congratulations to their beloved pastor but are they misplaced? —‘On our wedding night, after the driest of dry dos, I lay, eyes shut, in the bridal suite of the Causeway Hotel, waiting for the Cireworks to commence . . . ‘

Not many Monday mornings start like this, but what a pleasure to interview the fabulous Oriole Cullen, curator of Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams at the Women’s Irish Network breakfast bright and early today. #oriolecullen @winwomenuk #irishinlondon
  • ✨Funny, articulate and extremely down to earth - it was a pleasure to hear Oriole Cullen’s journey to become the curator of Dior’s Designer of Dreams exhibition at @V_and_A and learn about her view of the art & design world today.
“The world is in tumultuous times.
The title of the show [Designer of Dreams] represented escapism, because Dior became a representative of a new world after the hardships of war. His story is a very positive one.” Oriole Cullen at our #BusinessBreakfast.
A special thank you to all the new people who joined our event today, and the renowned Orla Kiely who is a great supporter and @marieclairetrish who interviews Oriole- it was a full house of 70 at @CorriganMayfair and it was a pleasure to meet you all! To hear about future events sign up to our newsletter. (Link in bio☝🏽!) And a special thank you to @WeAreAMS for supporting our #BusinessBreakfasts ✨
  • ✨Sold out! Our next Business Breakfast with Oriole Cullen is now sold out. We’ll see you at @corrigans_mayfair next Monday morning for an awe-inspiring talk from the Irish curator of @vamuseum’s Dior exhibition.
